Dayparting Amazon Ads: Should Your Ads Run 24 Hours a Day?

Pexeta Team · 19 October 2026 · 6 min read

By default, Amazon ads run around the clock until the daily budget runs out. For many sellers, that budget is gone by mid-afternoon, before the evening hours when many Indian shoppers browse and buy on their phones. Dayparting fixes this by adjusting bids or budgets by hour of the day.

Why timing matters

  • Conversion rates vary by hour. Clicks at 2 am rarely convert as well as clicks in the evening.
  • Budgets run out. If your budget is exhausted by 3 pm, you're invisible for the rest of the day.
  • Competition varies. Bids on competitive keywords can be cheaper at off-peak hours, which is useful for some categories.

Step 1: find your own peak hours

Don't copy a generic schedule. Pull hourly data for at least four weeks and look at, for each hour:

  • Clicks and spend
  • Orders and conversion rate
  • ACoS by hour

Amazon's Ads console and reporting tools can break performance down by hour. Look for hours with consistently high ACoS and low conversion, and hours where you run out of budget while conversion is still strong.

Step 2: adjust, don't switch off

Turning campaigns fully off overnight is the most common dayparting mistake. Your keywords lose momentum, and on many keywords you'd be giving up cheap clicks. A better approach:

  • Lower bids in weak hours rather than pausing completely.
  • Raise bids a little in your strongest hours, especially on proven exact-match keywords.
  • Pace budgets so money is still available in the evening.
  • Keep brand-defence campaigns running at all hours.

Step 3: automate it

Manually changing bids several times a day isn't practical across dozens of campaigns. Amazon's console offers rules and schedules for some adjustments; finer hour-by-hour control usually needs a tool connected to the Amazon Ads API. If an agency manages your ads, ask how they handle bid scheduling across your campaigns.

When dayparting helps most

Helps a lotHelps less
Budgets that run out before eveningBudgets that never run out
Clear hourly conversion patternsFlat conversion across the day
High-CPC categoriesVery low spend accounts
Impulse and mobile-first productsConsidered B2B purchases
Measure dayparting on total sales and TACoS, not just ACoS. If cutting night-time bids lowers ACoS but total sales fall, you've cut too deep. See ACoS vs TACoS.

Frequently asked questions

Does Amazon India support dayparting natively?+

Amazon's Ads console offers some schedule and rule-based adjustments. Detailed hour-by-hour bid changes are usually done with third-party tools using the Amazon Ads API.

Should I pause Amazon ads at night?+

Usually not completely. Lower bids in weak hours instead, so you keep visibility and keyword momentum, and keep brand-defence campaigns running.

How much data do I need before dayparting?+

At least four weeks of hourly data, preferably more, so one unusual day doesn't drive your schedule.
