Selling on Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart: A Brand's Guide to Quick Commerce

Pexeta Team · 13 October 2026 · 8 min read

For many categories, such as snacks, beverages, personal care, home care and baby products, quick commerce is now one of the fastest-growing sales channels in Indian cities. But it works very differently from Amazon or Flipkart, and brands that treat it as "just another marketplace" often struggle.

How quick commerce is different

Getting onboarded

Each platform has its own brand onboarding process, and the commercial model can differ by platform and category. Broadly, brands either work directly with the platform's category or brand-partnership team, or supply through an approved seller or distributor. Expect to be asked for:

  • GST registration and company documents
  • FSSAI licence for food and beverages
  • Barcodes (EAN/GTIN) on every SKU, usually through GS1 India
  • Packaging that complies with Legal Metrology rules: MRP, net quantity, manufacturer details
  • Shelf-life that meets the platform's minimum at the time of inward
  • Product images and content in the platform's format

Choosing cities and SKUs

  • Start with a few cities where you already have demand or distribution, rather than going national at once.
  • Lead with hero SKUs: your fastest movers in sizes suited to impulse and top-up purchases.
  • Think in packs and price points that work for a quick, unplanned purchase.

What decides your visibility

  1. Availability: being in stock at dark stores is the single biggest factor. A stock-out removes you from the shelf entirely.
  2. Sales velocity: platforms favour SKUs that sell through quickly.
  3. Content: clear images and accurate titles help in search and browse.
  4. Ads: each platform offers its own ad products, such as search ads and banner placements, to boost visibility.
  5. Price and offers: competitive pricing and participation in platform events.
Track availability by city and dark store every day. In quick commerce, a week of stock-outs can undo a month of ad spend.

Watch your margins

Quick-commerce terms can include platform margins, marketing contributions and logistics costs to get stock into city warehouses. Model your profit per unit by platform and city before scaling, and treat ad spend as part of the channel's cost, not a separate budget.

Is quick commerce profitable for small brands?+

It can be for fast-moving, repeat-purchase products, but margins, marketing contributions and logistics costs add up. Model profit per unit by city before scaling.
